MiHIA Names Board Members

Midland, Michigan – The Michigan Health Information Alliance (MiHIA) recently named its Board of Directors, with members representing various sectors of the community. MiHIA is a regional collaboration among a broad range of stakeholders committed to improving people’s health. The group’s mission is to improve the health of people within our region through effective use of information and collaboration to establish our region as a community of health excellence through a comprehensive focus on population health, patient experience and cost of care.

The following individuals are serving on the MiHIA Board of Directors:

  • Chairperson, Dr. Cathy Baase, global director of Health Services, The Dow Chemical Company
  • Vice chairperson, Elizabeth Schnettler, president, Hospital Council of East Central Michigan (HCECM), East Central Michigan Healthcare Foundation and Health Care Alliance Pool, Inc.
  • Secretary, Sandra Lindsey, CEO, Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority
  • Treasurer, Chris Ingersoll, dean, The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions, Central Michigan University
  • Representing the employer sector are Dr. Baase and Sushil Mankani, MD, corporate medical director, Dow Corning Corporation
  • Representing the consumer sector is James Borin, community volunteer
  • Representing the academic sector are Ingersoll and Sally Decker, professor, Saginaw Valley State University
  • Representing the non-profit or foundation sector is David Gamez, president and CEO, Health Delivery, Inc.
  • Representing the hospital or health system sector are Alice Gerard, president and CEO, Bay Regional Medical Center; Spence Maidlow, CEO, Covenant HealthCare System; and Rick Reynolds, president, MidMichigan Health
  • Representing the public or mental health sector are Lindsey and Mike Krecek, director / health officer, Midland County Department of Public Health
  • Representing health providers are Gary Smith, MD, president, Midland Family Physicians, P.C.; Gregg Stefanek, DO, president, Gratiot County Medical; and Thomas Veverka, MD, president-elect medical staff, St. Mary's Hospital
  • Representing the Triple Aim Leadership sector are Michael Schultz, MD, chief medical quality and informatics officer, Covenant HealthCare System; and Ernie Yoder, MD, founding dean, Central Michigan University College of Medicine
  • Board members at large are Schnettler and John Graham, president & CEO, St. Mary’s of Michigan, and regional market leader, Ascension Michigan

Earlier this year, MiHIA made major strides in its quest to become a self-governing non-profit organization. MiHIA, which was created in 2007 with the help of a planning contract awarded to Central Michigan University Research Corporation by the State of Michigan Department of Community Health, is now operating as an independent legal entity.
