 What is consumer engagement?

The consumer engagement movement (or health care consumerism) encourages individuals to become more involved in their health and health care. It is supported by the fact that individuals who have greater control over health care decisions will become more involved in their health and have better outcomes.

Consumer engagement is a common-sense approach to health care -involving the cooperation of patients, providers, payers and partners- designed to convert passive patients to active partners in their health.

Why promote consumer engagement?

Everyone can benefit from more effective consumer engagement.

The envisioned benefits of health care consumerism can become reality if we -as a community of patients, providers, payers and partners- are successful in engaging consumers in their health care.

Consistent with our mission and role as a regional collaborative and Chartered Value Exchange, the Michigan Health Information Alliance (MiHIA) is taking a lead in the consumer engagement movement by offering -tools and information needed for  this region to benefit from healthcare consumerism.

The Questions Are the Answers campaign is the first tool offered by MiHIA which can be used by patients, providers, payers, and partners. Use the links below to join us in promoting this consumer engagement campaign.
